Brian Ruckley's novel, Winterbirth, was one of the best debuts of 2006. Hard, gritty, and a very well-written fantasy with great characters, it's a must read.
Brian was kind enough to come on board for a Q&A which will be online August, so, if you've got any burning questions you want to ask him, this is your chance! Or perhaps, you've never heard of him, but are interested in his style, inspiration, pet peeves, favourite chocolate bar, etc...!

EDIT: I will soon be posting a review of Winterbirth as many of you emailed me requesting this, and I should have thought of it anyway!

I really enjoyed Winterbirth.
Though it may be a "Godless World" the now-gone gods of the old world obviously played a large part in the book. Are there any plans for the gods to take a more corporeal part in the trilogy?? And do you have any plans beyond the Godless World Trilogy?
Nice blog, bookswede. Another one who notuiced you from toasted scimitar :-)
I enjoyed the book, which along with Hal Duncan and Alan Campbell confirms some exciting Scottish talent emerging.
Look forward to the next one.
I am remiss in my Scottish fantasy reading! I haven't gotten around to reading either! I'll try to :)
If there was one thing Brian could change about the book, what would it be?
I know some have criticised it for being very methodical at the beginning, which looking back seems unfair.
I found Winterbirth to be a challenging but more than satisfying read. And the ending is such that you have to know what happens next even if that can only mean more blood being spilt.
Strangely enough I have Vellum and Scar Night waiting patiently to be read - though they might be waiting a little while.
For a debut novel the series of the Godless World shows great promise.
Oh, there's a review on my blog ;)
